One reason we decided to move to Brussels
When the prospect of moving to Brussels first came up, me and the boy decided to head over there for a day trip to decide whether it would be an acceptable place to spend half a year of our lives. The picture above illustrates one reason why we decided it would! We loved the area around Sablon - antiques market, pricey furniture shops, chocolateries - nothing you'd actually spend any money on, but a very pleasant place for a Sunday afternoon stroll. I've heard a lot about the ugly buildings in Brussels and we were expecting the worst on our first visit, but I think places like Sablon and Grand Place are as beautiful as many others I've seen in Paris, Vienna, or London.Monday, 26 January 2009
Those we left behind
This post is dedicated to the memory of Mary and Margaret, two loving gerbils, who had to find a new home when we decided to move to Brussels. We did investigate the possibility of paying a man with a van a small fortune to carry them out, but decided that might be too much even for these hardy rodents...I'm trying to convince the other half to post a thrilling biography of each gerbil - watch this space.

The other half's contribution to this blog...
...to date has been to suggest that I call it "25 and going nowhere".
I originally imagined this as being a two-man affair, but he seems reluctant so I'll have to speak on his behalf. If this thing lasts any longer than just the one night, I'll keep trying to convince him!

Welcome and introduction
Welcome to my new blog, chronicling my six-month career break in the capital of European bureaucracy, Brussels.
I'm going to Brussels for six months with my civil partner, and hopefully will be regularly updating this blog with my terribly amusing musings, any photos I can be bothered to take, and any observations I care to make. In short, it's more for my own amusement than for yours.
We're moving out there in two weeks. More soon.
